My sister and Cousin went to this place about a week before I went and I heard nothing but good comments regarding it, upon asking various questions about the location I recalled having been there about 10 years or so before. Despite most of my family except for my grandmother having said we never went there before.
Regardless, coming from panama city, this seemed a tad out of the way, but our local spring has seen better days. Upon arriving we were greeted nicely by the people working there. We bought our canoe and then loaded into the van to take us to where the canoe trip begins (it ends in the place where you paid) you begin the trip like most, paddling down a creek, and observing the nature, There is not much to speak of for land based animals but the occasional large fish, turtles, birds and a snake or two are not out of the question.
Upon arriving at the first big stop, Cyprus Spring I notice there are a lot of people around but not too many to make it no fun. we stayed and took some pictures swam but it slowly lost it's appeal. we paddled in and out of various areas finding paths and other things on the way to go through. it was a long, relatively eventless paddle to the water park, but enjoyable none the less, upon arriving at our final stop we were helped out of the water and given armbands for the "waterpark" it was not a big budget park like you would see at Places like Disney, Wild Adventures and even small parks like Shipwreck Island, but it was well built and very interesting there was a slide made from wood, and treated in a manner that allowed it to become fairly slippery, on that same platform there was also two outcrops to swing from, a lower one and one that is higher up. About 10 feet away there is a diving board as well, and as far as I can tell, no one has gotten hurt to my knowledge. Recently they have put signs regarding Safety and Rules applying to the slide and swing. along with a sign stating there was no lifeguard on duty, but there were at least two (my sister and her Boyfriend) present the day I went of course they were not "on duty".all in all it was fun and worth the money.
I enjoyed my trip of course by the end of the day I was tired, burned and I wanted to get home so even if I wanted to stay I simply couldn't and the day had to come to an end.
The beautiful clear springs, combined with the natural and man made amusement make it a fun stop if you are willing to burn off some energy and have a few hours to kill.

You mad? :3
I am currently being bullied by Bear Creek Feline Center, they are attempting censor the fact I was trying to achieve reform for the betterment of the center as I was not listened to while I was there, as the old saying goes, money talks, I felt that pointing out the truth would achieve reform and I was correct. I was simply trying to make sure the center does not return to how it has been in the past.
My initial goal was to not harm the center, the animals, or reputation of the center or it's owner as stated by Jim (even if this did come as a side effect) it was in fact to make sure that things do not go to the dogs like they were the day of my departure from the center July 7, 2010. This was not a "Malicious attack", it was an attempted "wake up call". From what I have heard it has worked, but during my time at the center most if not all were fact, and anything else is either false information From Jim himself, or a simple mistake on my part such was the case involving the Legality of Billie Lambert's possession of a bobcat while "waiting on her license to be approved".
However any and all losses of donations from BCFC involving me compared to last year can simply be written off as I have ceased sending people to the center as I did during my time there, and his own choices of not giving as many tours. and lets note as such any losses before the date of May 8th, 2011 can not be connected to me as I posted the blog in question on this date. I wholly believe that the only people who visit this blog are me and people Jim has sent to it to help "stomp out the uglyness" which is misspelled, just for a note.
As a retired internet troll, if I wished to "maliciously attack" him I would be able to do a much better job.
Lets also note if I was wishing to ruin Bear Creek's "good name" I would have posted this blog a full year earlier. As stated in many other blogs I in my younger years was a troll a fact I am not entirely proud of but I do not attempt to hide it and while I still have the "skills" I have retired from such actions.
I will state that Jim has refused my multiple offers to speak of this in person to handle this properly, and that everything that he is claiming to sue me for, he actually did (or attempted to do) the very same thing, as seen on his blog posted in January of 2010:
http://www.blogger.com/profile/12348295962256315734
He is seen here using the Blogger Name "big cat rescue" which in the words of his own attorney "is construed as trade name infringement" and is "fraudulent use of their business identify and copyright materials" of course he was talking to me using those words but my point remains.

(If these Webpages go down I will gladly supply screenshots, and even saved .html files of them upon request)
This was a one among many things Jim requested his employees to do in order to "Help defeat Big Cat Rescue" in an email campaign to his "friends" among with other things, He even set up a (Denied) Sponsored Link Campaign with Google. I submit that I learned these tactics from my then Male Role Model and as I have had no father in my life I am prone to learn from people I see as respectable, including their bad traits.
However, due to the fact I am currently involving the Authorities in the various harassing, and threatening "Anonymous" comments I for now have to refuse to remove such blogs. At least until the investigations are dealt with. I will remove these blogs after either after the investigations involving them are resolved or they are dismissed.
Have a nice day,
Stephen Swift
Note: Logs and copies of emails and images will be sent/forwarded at the request of any one wishing to inquire, I have logs dating back to 1/30/10.
It has also been brought to my attention that Jim is still using my mother's name in relation to his website despite our requests to remove it. Why should I comply with his "orders" when he has refused ours.
I am still open to an in person discussion of the removal of such but as it has been refused before I am doubting such will occur.
Legal Note: As this is occurring and I am stating my opinion of such and my side in this post I believe this is not considered libel. All past posts involving BCFC are for archival purposes, and will remain until the Law Enforcement Agencies no longer need it to obtain the information they need from said comments. Removal of such would be classified as destruction of evidence. And as you stated I have ten days to play around with. I'll be fine waiting until the last moment for I do have a life to attend to other than your attempts at censorship of the truth, at least during the time I was at the center.
Oh and I denied the comment you tried to post because it contained personal information (my street address), if I were you I wouldn't attempt such again.

Going with the Breeze
A while ago I began a writing a review on the Gulf Breeze Zoo of Florida, it was an enjoyable experience all around, but there's some points in it that I found somewhat odd, I know some things are fairly trivial but it was an all around good experience for those who aren't being tagged along with a group of imbeciles I was forced to be related to.
Upon entering the Facility, we are greeted by a group of friendly staff members the price to get in was fairly cheap (I believe it was $12 or $13 for adults) considering the number and variety of animals. We hit the beautiful paths, the with two visually appealing areas for the Lemurs and then various waterfowl, the Waterfowl habitat was contained land and a lovely small stream of water, a visual masterpiece and if I was a fan of Waterfowl I would love this type of habitat for them. However the habitat across the way didn't meet up to my standards as well. The lemur habitat contained a few of my noted human errors. For example the fencing was maybe two or three feet high, the inside has a ring of water, making the Lemurs have a small island with a few houses. I notice the only thing stopping them from leaping the fence is ring of water, the could possibly swim and escape, of course this is just worst case scenario. I did see that someone left the cleaning instruments in the lemur cage as well as a weed eater they were on the other side of the water, but it doesn't set a good visual or a safety illusion.
We move onto the rest of the "petting zoo" area which contains mostly barnyard animals, Ducks, goats, sheep, pigs, chickens and the like, upon arriving at the Pig's pin if you will, my sister found out that the pig is not as friendly as the other animals, as he bit her, a small wound but it was bad enough for her to be bleeding because of it. As it was Easter they had the Bunnies and the chicks together (I don't know if they do that all the time or if it was only easter) this isn't a problem for me, they were all hanging out and resting, being picked up on occasion, of course only a few of the chicks would come near you to let you pick them up. In the small building across the way we see they have more chicks and a few bunnies too, and I noticed... a guinea pig which was pretty enjoyable.
We saw the Giraffes that everyone seems to love so much, but they seem a tad over rated, despite upon looking into reviews on the way up there we found that one of them can use a computer, not to say they weren't enjoyable but they weren't a huge hit with me having seen giraffes since I was a child at Zoo World here in Panama City, of course this is coming from the point of view of a 19 year old
Having been worn out on the Giraffes if I recall, we turned a corner to see a short series of cages with birds, one such bird looked like Elvis Presley and I believe this very same bird continually jumped from it's branch to the back corner of his room which he bounced off of to land back onto his branch, this small feat is rather enjoyable to watch once or twice which is about how much the bird will do it it seems.
We then moved onto the area with the Clouded Leopard and various other cats I've had experiences with such as Panthers and Tigers, as I was "trained" by Jim Broaddus I clearly don't know too much about the true parts of the law, I noticed the the Small Clouded Leopard's cage only had one door, which I imagine is for the food to be slid into, this may not be much of an issue with smaller cats, but he could get out fairly easily if this is the only door, as seen with the tigers and other larger cats a two door cage is wiser, but as I stated before I don't know if it's against the law. I did find the cat to be adorable and he seemed healthy and happy, like most of the animals there.
I did notice how beautiful the Tigers coats looked shiny and Healthy, as well as the Panthers or Mountain Lions (I don't recall which it was after about a month) they had also looked beautiful in their cage had natural shade provided by vines and plants, which did make them hard to get a picture of since they enjoyed huddling in the back where it was fairly dark.
I found multiple other Species such as Bears, Alligators, and one attractive human female who was fixing a cage of a large bird I believe. I can't recall entirely but I do know I was happy to see that when a problem was found it wasn't put off for various reasons.
One of the issues I did find was in the otter habitat where they needed a ladder to climb out of the water instead of some other more safe ways of exiting. The water also seems to be algae filled, but this of course would be more natural but it does detract from the visual appeal. I do find the ladder mostly inexcusable but the algae is more okay.
The Multiple Peacocks you see running around are beautiful as the male of the species is the more visually appealing it was easy to tell which was which. as seen in the second picture the Peacock, when it's plumage is down it looks similar to a prom dress in a way. I believe I saw three males and at the end of the Train ride, one female, or Peahen. Unfortunately my cousin and sister thought it would be a smart idea to corner and chase one of them around, which I told them not to, but they took it upon themselves to not listen, and they were yelled at by an employee, whom my mother yelled back at both of whom were being completely retarded, and the Employee ends up giving a vague threat to my mother stating "You're lucky I'm on the clock" She was right for defending the animals, but threatening guests with bodily harm is not wise. Especially when they are allowed to run free.
A lot of the barriers are easily jumped over by not only the animals, but also by people which despite them needing to be mature enough to not do so, there are always going to be idiots refusing to be mature.
We of course opted for the train ride, a maybe 30 or so minute ride around the back portion of the property containing Wildebeests, African Wild Dogs, and many others. It was a nice ride, that was professional, it was filled with information, of course it was slightly uncomfortable with the wooden seats, but all together it was a fun ride.
Unfortunately, this zoo didn't have many animals that appealed to me such as smaller Felines and Foxes (I don't know if they had any foxes, it's hard to recall)
Upon leaving we exit through the gift shop, as you typically do in places like this, filled with toys, tee shirts and other gifts. Of course it was a lovely visit aside from a few bumps in the road, but I do believe that this is a good visit if you are in the area. But with gas hovering at 4.00 per gallon don't make this your only stop for a vacation.
As always have a nice day,
Stephen Swift

Up Bear Creek without a Paddle (Part 2)
Upon more researching into pictures on his site I noticed a few things that I put behind me while working there, and I notice also how there is a large lack of updating to the site. For example the lack of "good" pictures showing the facility
For Example, the site lists Multiple animals as being at the Center where as the facts are a large Majority have died, or been moved to a new home. Such as the Caracal it was moved along with a Serval to a home on the beach, The original Jaguarundis died, as I stated before, but I think they have managed to get another one, and the "Search For Littlefoot" that his center launched has had no true progress and has not been worked on for a good while.
Some species go misclassified or misspelled, One example is the mislabeling of the Geoffroy's Cats as "Oncifelas Geoffroy" as it's Latin name where in fact it is Leopardus geoffroyi, he also labels the Serval as "Felis Serval" as well as giving it's proper name, Servals are not Classified as Felis Serval anymore if they ever were at all, instead they are Leptailurus serval. Another mislabeling is of the Caracal, labeled as Felis Caracal, as opposed to Caracal Caracal. The Jaguarundis are labeled as Herpailurus yaguarundi, this is the old Latin name of the animal, it it now Puma yagouaroundi. And the bobcats being labeled as "Felis Rufus" where they are now Lynx Rufus.
I know of one more, there are probably many misclassifications that I don't feel like listing, the final one I'll list is the Old Classification of the Panthers as "Felis Concolor" in a taped interview but now it is Puma Concolor. I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt and say that these are old proper names and the site has not been updated aside from adding new posts on the front page or new pages.
His site is not an educational resource, nor are his tours as the same outdated information is given most of the time and Jim needs to realize that adding "Felis" to the names does not make them proper for these cats.
His site gives images that are outdated, confusing in the sense of direction, and then some of substandard cages that are dangerous or at the very least irresponsible. For example, the image above shows a cage that has since been brought to standards but at the time this image was taken it seems that he was using either barbed wire or an electrical fence system in place of a roof while what seems to be a Bobcat or Lynx (Possibly multiple.). This is not only dangerous to the cat, it is dangerous to the humans around the facility, as barbed wire isn't a real great deterrent. Not to mention the ladder being left on the ground giving the illusion of his center being as Carole Baskin put it "a back yard menagerie", if you can't put away a simple ladder how can we expect you to take care of animals effectively.
He also praises his center as having "clearly marked paths" which according to him are required by law and while in the images he has these paths, they are old images and these "paths" have since been been overgrown, and a large majority lost to the sands of time. The paths have been rocks that he laid out that became overgrown with plants, then he used a tractor to make a path by raking some of the stuff a path that wasn't "clearly marked".
Jim has been flirting with the idea of returning to the breeding portion of his "conservation" as I stated before, unfortunately he is currently not licensed as a breeder, and despite him constantly speaking against keeping these animals as pets going as far to have a side bar on his site saying "We do not sell pets" he wishes to sell them. Take my advice if you need to have one of these animals as a pet buy from a Licensed and Proven breeder, not someone who will say one thing and do others.
It is also safe to note Jim nor his "interns" have made any appearances at local (at least for a long while) schools, aside from the one his wife works at, and if I recall, none of their animals were there, I was sent to my mom's work to give a speech on the animals Jim was invited but decided to delegate it due to the aforementioned aversion to disabled people, Here's a tip, if you want to educate the public take the animals to the schools and give your little TV speeches on the stage. As long as the animals are small and well handled there shouldn't be much of a problem, nor would there be an issue showing videos of the others. It is also safe to say more than half of the stuff on his "Education" page didn't happen in my 7 months there. Except the cleaning, "enriching", and giving tours. I did however get to observe the vet a few times come to the center.
Finally, upon requesting him to remove my family's images, videos, and other work from his website, Youtube and other forms of his propaganda using my face, my family's faces and our work. He has not replied to my requests nor has he removed the videos made by my family. I believe that if we are not allowed there we should not be being used to make him more money. I refuse to have my face attached to a place where I'm no longer allowed to be thanks to the immaturity of such a person. I may be seeking legal action against such.
Of course I'm not going to continue to drone on about the Feline Center, despite it having given a massive spike in my views.
Tune in next time for my review on the Gulf Breeze Zoo in Florida.
Have a nice day,
Stephen Swift

Up Bear Creek Without a Paddle
I spent a good amount of 7 months working at Bear Creek Feline Center, Located out side of Panama City, Florida and I know a large amount of what goes on at the center that the main people do not see. I'm going to enlighten the public on Jim's "Don't Tell Anyone" policy and of the many things that go on behind the backs of the general population. Sit back, enjoy and I apologize if it gets a little long winded, It's hard to summarize 7 months in a short thing also, it's fairly hard for me to joke about things with animals But really this whole center is a big enough joke as it is. I do however apologize for my lack of proof because during my time there I did not take pictures showing the flaws, I kind of regret that now.
Major Players
The Owner
Our first stop in this lovely post isn't the animals, nor their habitats, it is in fact the owner, a former local radio station owner by the name of Jim Broaddus. But in fact much like I've heard of his counterpart at Big Cat Rescue you rarely see him unless a large sum of money is involved or publicity is involved. This man began his center merely as an Animal Hobbyist who started with an Ocelot back when the rules regarding such animals were less stringent, I assume the animals later died and then he stuck to more traditional pets for a while. He eventually got his love for the exotics again and upon finding the new rules and regulations regarding Ocelots had become more stringent he settled for a Serval the state ended up rehoming many species there due to the quality of the cages he had at the time and over time it has grown to a large number that is usually in the 20s but is ever changing due to deaths and new acquisitions.
Jim is also fairly lazy around his own center, preferring to delegate the work to the "interns" rather than do it himself, there has even been days I noticed when there were no interns the cages went uncleaned, after being told only to clean once per day my favorite cat pooped and it was still there two days later despite Jim saying he cleaned up, and I noticed no mark in any cage to indicate otherwise.
Jim is heavily disrespectful to his wife in front of others having called her various things I do not wish to repeat as even rumors of such have been known to get people in her career fired, and when she interrupts him with a simple bit of knowledge she knows he always snaps back with "Let me speak" or other things equating to "Shut up" such disrespect is hard to ignore for too long and I was about fed up with it when I left.
This man even attempted to make me choose between him or my grandfather, having badmouthed my grandfather, granted yes, he was a little uninterested in the facility Jim has no right to even attempt to make me make a choice between playing with his cats or spending time with my grandfather.
And when he "let me go" this sick bastard had the audacity to ask me and my family for donations. As seen in this email between my mother and himself:
None of this ever happened, nor was it even attempted. A few more months went by and no results. Despite me having a bank account with a rather large sum that could just be thrown away at my very whim, I refuse to donate any some of time nor money to a facility I was not allowed to go to.
On the surface both Jim and his Facility seem nice, friendly and that everything is in order, however this couldn't be farther from the truth. Being around the facility for an hour (10 to 20 minutes max in each area.) Hardly allows you to see the lovely infractions of the regulations he attempts to instill in his interns and the cocky "I know better than everyone" attitude I shall get to shortly.
The Wife
Bertie Broaddus A nice school teacher whom I find almost no faults in as a person other than her seemingly horrendously submissive attitudes to various things going on at the place she works and lives.
Makes a great sandwich (no this is not a sexist joke, she really does) and has taken charge of the Class III Geoffroy's Cats A small South American Spotted cat and the adjoining breeding program for said animals. For some reason these cats didn't like me that much even though I didn't do anything to them but it might be because of the smell of a much larger cat on me.
The "Interns"
If you were to compare Jim to a Southern Gentleman in the 1800s these lovely people would be comparable to slaves, Despite being a charity and a Volunteer effort Jim has stated many times it's not a "come when you please" thing if you start going every Sunday for a while he will assume you are going to be there every Sunday in general as if that is the only thing you have going on. He has expected these interns to adhere to his schedule and more often than not either refuses to change dates for certain things or Gets angry if you don't show up for some reason like you have other things to do, such as deal with a dying grandmother.
That much I can understand if someone makes a promise to be there they should be there unless family business becomes a factor, or something more important such as Paid Work, or something else such as needing a break from Jim (which contrary to his belief most of the people at his center only go there for the cats, Jim is not the loved expert it is incredibly hard to be around him even once a week continuously.
The interns are the main work force around Bear Creek, as stated above Jim sits on his computer or on the phone most of the time and tells people to do his work. The only things separating Interns from "slaves" in my metaphor is that we are offered a chance of possibly getting a license for a Class II Species of animal but to date I've only heard of two or three people actually receiving the license. Mike and Amanda Myers and Billie Lambert. For this license we need to do 500 hours and then take a test after Jim "confirms" we did the hours, or 1000 and then we just get the license, due to the nature in which Jim treats some of his employees for offering ideas counter to his own, the number of licensees doesn't surprise me.
Board of Directors
Finally we have the Board of directors, an ever changing mostly unknown mysterious list that only is known in Jim's mind. I have gotten more lists of Directors than pairs of pants I own.
This Board is basically just a way to say "Jim likes you for now" they hold what seems to me no real power because I've noticed if you disagree with Jim you won't last very long. This board I've been given lists of people in New York, Texas, and even other Countries that are certainly not Florida, the problem with such is the "board" is not in touch with what is going on day to day and only relies on Jim's word, the few from Panama City Either didn't know people well enough (only going once a week) or were in Jim's Pocket and did not wish to say anything to potentially get canned.
The Broken lists I've gotten from Jim's babbling consist of these People
Jim
Bertie
Mike Myers
Craig Derosa (a gent in New York, nice guy but is only around maybe two weeks out of the year)
Possibly a German Gent who lives in Panama City
And Possibly two guys one either in France or just a guy who lived in France for a time (hard to pay attention to all of them), and a man in the Czech Republic
Of course due to the ever changing nature of such and the distance the majority of this board is either ineffective for the "firing" portion that they are seemingly deemed with as well as a majority of other things.
Of course that is not to say they are bad people, the Majority are in fact great people but I believe to be misinformed about things going on in the actual center.
Animals and their Homes
Ever Been in one of those "haunted houses" I mean the real Scooby Doo like, 100 year old no upkeep houses in the country that the locals tag a story onto about hauntings and you can only get to in a drug induced trip? Get that image out of your head it's nothing like that but it's still not too great for some animals.
For the Most part the animals are Felines, excluding the Macaws and various squirrels, birds and occasional snake that roams on any large property in a wooded area. my last count included...
5 Puma Concolors which consist of one Mountain Lion and four "high percentage" Florida Panthers
4 Bobcats
6 Servals
3 Lynx
and 3 Geoffroy's Cats
This count is due to a loss of Various animals due to Deaths or giving them away. Most habitats are built as the laws state, but Maintenance has suffered from time to time. There have been missed cleanings, but not missed so much that the animals are swimming in their own excrement, needed repairs to cages go undone for months because Jim was "waiting on X Employee to bring some chain link fence poles" instead of getting it himself.
Allow me to tell some stories I heard directly from Jim. It had occurred that the Servals in once cage found a place they enjoy to urinate on, the place happened to be the corner of the fence facing out into the yard. This went largely unchecked until they "Peed their way to freedom" both Servals had urinated so much in one area that the ammonia in their urine sped the Rusting of the fence from about 10+ years to significantly less, both Servals escaped into the yard their only protection from escaping completely being their fear of the unknown having been in the cage for so long and a 6-8 foot fence that as Jim teaches in his tours a Serval can easily jump over leading to the road and not far from a Highway 231 where dozens of deer are hit annually. Of course this was not the case in this scenario, the Servals were retrieved and the fence was repaired. But these repairs don't seem to happen until something happens, much like other things in life changes don't seem to happen until it's already too late.
Another story involving a Savannah cat that Jim always qualified as being worth "six thousand dollars" Escaped, but Jim also qualifies that as he believes it was "released" This cat was never found.
Along with potential escapes we also have the ever present cage repairs and cleanings to prevent things such as disease or death or general harm to animals and humans. However I've noticed a few things and heard a few that went unchecked and caused such things to happen.
My major concern due to the amount of time and bonding I had spent with Servals was the completely rusted through pole in the Serval Cage, it was only being held up by it's anchor point in the top and gravity and possibly some rusted away "foot hold" type things to keep it in place this pole needed to be replaced when I arrived at the place, and a good 7 months and countless reminders later, It still hadn't been, and quite honestly I would put money on it still being as I left it.
Protip: For someone who claimed to have been born into a Horse raising family he wasn't too wise to the fact tetanus is a problem for animals as well as humans and that is is commonly gotten through rusty metal and contaminated dirt.
Of course to my knowledge the Servals are fine, unlike the Jagurundis who died this year from what they assume is a "virus in their cage" which having cleaned it a few times could be from the raw meat they left in their little house that was rarely cleaned to the point of near putrefaction. One can only assume the various bacteria and diseases that congregate on raw meat that has been left out for hours, days, and possibly weeks in a dark, moldy hot house simply got to them.
Of course since it wasn't my job to clean all the cages myself I always let others clean that cage because of the damage I've seen done by that specific cat species.
My belief is that if given proper attention by the owner and interns after I left these animals would not have met such a harsh death, since they both died within days of each other it's a safe assumption that it was something in their cage.
My final note on this is that during the winter months Jim and I found that one of the Serval, who happened to be my favorite was effected very badly by cold weather on one occasion becoming incredibly sick one time Jim brought him into the house but to my knowledge that was the only time such an occurrence happened.
Work With the Disabled Community
In the Local paper Jim was heralded as a hero to the disabled community, this however is not as true as it seems. The only "Disabled" people he's worked with are those with no Visible problems, no diminished faculties, in fact I assume most were Aspergers diagnosed, which I believe honestly isn't much of a disability if it even really effects anything more than their tact in social situations. Jim has in fact refused many people due to their disabilities to join the Vocational Rehab Program he had.
In fact Jim has an admitted Aversion to the more disabled populous going as far as to refuse a tour to one of my mother's clients, I would imagine would be the best word. This mentally disabled young man whom can't even speak was refused an outside of the cages tour that was offered to be given by another school teacher who knows how to deal with such children. In fact at the time in question there were three school teachers who either specialized in dealing with the mentally disabled or at the least knew a decent amount, on the grounds, outside willing to help just show this poor child a few cats just to brighten his day. Jim of course would not hear of such a thing for whatever reasons he had. Somewhat unfortunate because he in fact has a better relationship with Parolees and inmates than the innocents of the world.
Due to being force to join the Vocational Rehab program through my school I later was getting paid to work at the center, despite my saying I didn't want to be paid to work there and I continually refused such until Jim rudely said things like "Why did I even bother doing this if you weren't going to be in it." And even going as far as begging me to change my mind, and of course I figured by the way he was talking if I didn't say yes I'd never be allowed there, even though I stated from the start I wanted nothing to do with their "experiment" as they put it. The reasons of course were multiple, One I didn't like being expected to do the work, I liked it better when Jim appreciated the work I did rather than having the idea in his head that I had to do it. I didn't like the idea of being paid to work there in general due to it's status as a nonprofit, and finally I knew that if I was around him every other day with him scrutinizing every move I made like I was some idiot I would grow more and more resentment towards working there and would eventually not be allowed to return despite Jim's promise to not have the Vocational Rehab stuff affect my being there as a volunteer.
While working there Jim treated the first guy that I was paired with like the sun shined out of his ass, he was a fairly nice guy, but I did not enjoy having to pick up his slack and cleaning up the "messes" he made, I had to repaint a wall he didn't paint properly or finish before quitting to be with his girlfriend, I had to reclean cages he didn't finish, and make sure everything was done properly and this kid got all the credit. Which I half didn't like but that is a moot point.
Jim was charged with supervising us but most of the time he sat on his computer or on the phone, if he had been out there he would have noticed my multiple cases of heat exhaustion, or the few times the before mentioned "X employee" claimed to have just before arriving having partook in Marijuana use, which he admitted to me. The few times Jim was around doing his share of the "job" he was either yelling at us when we were doing the best we possibly could and it didn't meet up with his standards which led to injuries multiple times. Or he was scrutinizing every move like we had never used a drill before when in fact I've assisted with more complex projects than has ever been done at BCFC. And as a side note, we were not supplied with any safety equipment such as Helmets, Eye Protection, or Masks for when we were dealing with various volatile substances such as bleach mixed with ammonia or paint. The effects of the former can be read here:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/classic/A795611
In summary, Jim does not have the proper tools to be dealing with the disabled, Mentally and otherwise not allowing our well documented disabilities be factored into why we did certain things differently than he wanted and such.
Misc
As a self-proclaimed "expert" Jim believes far too highly in his own abilities despite telling his tour groups and interns not to do something he in fact decides that the rules he lays out do not apply to him, which has led to injuries and attacks by animals which Jim has gone as far as to deny despite multiple witnesses.
I am aware of two attacks that have occurred at Bear Creek due to Jim's cocky attitude. One of such injuring him to the point his skull was broken a bit.
The first happened before my time but he always brings it up, Cleo his Mountain Lion had wanted to play and instead of leaving when she was getting rough he stayed which resulted in him ending up on the ground laid out by an Animal multiple times his own strength. Resulting in what I amateurishly diagnosed as amnesia brought on by the event, which resulted in his admitted not remembering the attack as it occurred from his point of view, I imagine he pieced it together from the witnesses, which he is lucky were there otherwise he might currently be dead.
Another one occurred while I was there the tour group arrived at the Lynx cage and he decided to provoke Shakira a bit after saying "I don't think I should be in here because she doesn't like me but I think I can handle it" or something to that effect. shortly afterwards she jumped onto his back and as she was declawed began to bite through his shirt in a clear attempt to teach him a lesson.
Neither attack would have happened nor would have any others not witnessed if Jim knew his own limits and lost his cocky attitude but I'm sure this will not occur.
On to what Jim saw as a "major issue" for some reason. Jim sent out a series of emails and told us to "help defeat Carole Baskin" due to her own foolish attack on the center in which she labeled a "sponsored link" on Google as "Bear Creek Feline Center" in an attempt to detract people from the center. As Baskin has not been to the center in my knowledge she had no place to speak in the matter, and I am surprised this was an issue for either of these people. I'm surprised Bear creek is even big enough to show up on the radar of Big Cat Rescue's "business opponent" list and was willing to spend her own money to bad mouth a center as such. Of course I agree that a lot is not how it should be, but it is foolish to argue just because you aren't getting people from Panama City to go to your South Florida center. People in this city think going to Tampa is a bit too far for some pussy. Both Jim and Carole acted immaturely and in cases stupidly in this little "fight". But Jim insisted on wasting time on the computer every day clicking links and doing stuff to fight that instead of using the time for the cats fixing the issues pointed out by Ms. Baskin.
On to more pressing matters than wasted time of an aging man.
It was claimed in the Local paper that "Saint" was born at the center on super bowl Sunday. unfortunately that's not quite the case. Saint was born in South Florida and came to the center at the age of 4 months and has been raised there since. Of course no one cares for technicalities when you can be falsely praised for birthing a Panther in captivity which is hard to do when the only male at the center at the time is not a fan of Female Panthers. Of course this is just a small error I felt like noting.
Jim filed a claim with BP during the oil spill that was only somewhat true, he did lose some business but not as much as he claimed, as stated before Jim cancels tours, I recall Jim Canceling a few of them because they either weren't important or "big" enough around the time of the Spill, which somewhat exaggerated his losses, of course in the end I believe he only got $1,500 dollars
Finally Jim has gone as far as to look the other way on various laws, such as putting a panther in a cage without "two gates" which he teaches as mandatory, putting large animals in cages that are under the legal size and my personal favorite ignoring illegally possessed animals, and on top of that actually supplying them to unlicensed people.
One, a Billie Lambert was in possession of two bobcats given to her by Jim before becoming licensed, at least according to Jim's telling of the story, She has recently (within a year or two) gotten her license. So everything is legal now but that doesn't change the fact Jim Overlooked it intentionally, of course the cats were well taken care of and everything is kept up to standards so I have no gripes with Billie.
And Another Person who's name I will not mention without a court order compelling me to, I do not wish for his animals which he loves to be taken away and put down due to the laws. However this person illegally possesses two Servals, he is unlicensed and in addition the cats are in fact illegal where he is from, Jim either supplied these cats to the man or gave him the "hook up", telling him to say if anyone asks they are Savannahs, which I'm not sure but I believe those are illegal there too, but anyone with any knowledge of these cats knows most Savannahs lose the yellowish coat and well defined spots in favor of a more brownish main coat and slightly less defined spots due to the change in the contrast of colors. Here are pictures to Illustrate the difference:
And yet he teases myself and others with the impossible notion that if we deal with him for 500 to 1000 hours we could have animals like these of our own. Having at one time stated that if I had the proper cage he'd allow me to take my favorite cat home at the time, a thing I would have loved (and still would love if he wants to make this "go away") of course such an act would not be legal But I'd settle for being allowed to see it at all.
Of course it's fair to say it I wanted to make up things I'd state how he abuses animals and other false statements, but I believe the truth works just as fine for my intended goal. Letting the truth be known whether or not people intend to believe it. For the most part the animals are healthy and somewhat happy, but there is the occasion that it has become deadly and injurious for humans and animals to be in this facility.
I could go on for days talking about the center in both good and bad ways. But clearly I've droned on for too long. If you wish to ask a question, feel free to comment on this blog and I will answer it without the "Bear Creek" spin.
Have a lovely day,

And when he "let me go" this sick bastard had the audacity to ask me and my family for donations. As seen in this email between my mother and himself:
"April & Stephen: Exciting changes are in the works here at the Center. New faces, programs and opportunities. We will be moving cats to new centers around the country as we add other rare species. We are now much more than just a place to enrich the lives of our family of cats as we focus on conservation programs in the wild with ties to off center campus activities in Arkansas and Costa Rica. Each of our board members have realized that financial support is vital to support both Bear Creek programs in situ conservation. We are mandated to continue to feed our felines the best diets. We are negotiating with suppliers to provide us with organic chicken and beef, containing no growth hormones and anti biotics. Our mission is changing. If you would like to help us with both personal and financial support, I will apply to the board to devise a program custom tailored for Stephen as you have requested. In any event, we wish both of you well!Best,Jim BroaddusBCFC"
None of this ever happened, nor was it even attempted. A few more months went by and no results. Despite me having a bank account with a rather large sum that could just be thrown away at my very whim, I refuse to donate any some of time nor money to a facility I was not allowed to go to.

F1 Savannah
Serval

School Board Intrusion on Facebook Privacy
As I've been living with my grandmother I've been subjected to listen to horrendous "news" broadcasts that are supposedly fair and balanced but it's actually Bill O'reilly and the other nitwits overpowering someone with even a decent point of view to the contrary. As much as I'd love to complain about how Fair and Ballanced and Fox News is simply not true, I am more concerned with what I've been hearing on it lately. Apparently the gonvernment thinks that it's their duty to stop all the kids and puppies from killing themselves just because some people made fun of them. Now let me say up front as I'm listening to Andrew W.K.'s Party Hard, the people I align myself will know I am with them.
I heard that some people are wanting to put the duty of searching through Social Network sites for "cyber bullying" onto the teachers of American schools.
My only thought was "Who is the moron who thought this was a good idea?" It is not the duty of the teachers to sift through the drama and stupid status updates of the common teenager. I myself update my status so many times without even really realizing it. So this is itself is a full time job, which last I checked they already have one of those that they are horrendously underpaid for. (Even moreso since at least locally they are now being paid by how well their students do something else I don't agree with.) It's just simply not the duty of the American teacher to sit at a computer and look for potentially "suicidal meanings" in the status updates. Or bullying for that matter. Here's a tip if teachers begin monitoring status updates they'll just move to the Message feature that can only be seen by selected people, I really have a problem with the relative Privacy a public citizen expects to have online. Sure people shouldn't go blabbing their secrets or telling too much but I also believe that it's not the duty of teachers to dig for the information to prevent suicides, this is why there is the Suicide Hotlines, or in the case of bullying the report feature which tells the person that if they believe they are in bodily harm to call your local Police.
I honestly have a problem with teachers on Facebook in general at least as "friends" I don't believe that our teachers need to read through our tons of crap and have a "relationship" of any sort with the students other than professional, If you have a favorite teacher it's fine to talk to them during school or after class, but lets be honest, we rarely like our teachers that much. There are pages where you don't need to be "friends" with the person persay called Groups, open one of those for school related things but a 30-40 year old male being listed as a friend on a 16 year old girl's Facebook will throw up so many red flags We'd look like China in about an hour. I have one of my old teachers on my Facebook, but my case was different I was around this same teacher for a good 7 or so years and she is actually a pretty cool person, I'll admit it's kinda strange having her on there when the rest of the people are old friends from school but nonetheless I added her to keep up with her after I graduated.
99% of these kids threatening suicide are just attention whores. The other 1% who actually do it probably would have done it whether or not the bully said anything at all, when a person is dead set on believing the world is a horrible place and it's not worth living in, there is hardly anything you can do to stop them.
I believe that the power of the teacher, School Board, Board of Education, and what have you should not intrude into the relative privacy of social networking sites their "power" over the lives of the students should pertain only to the place where they are employed, the school, and the like. If someone is getting bullied on the school grounds by all means stop it but really, bullying is so high up on the internet under the guise of Anonymous even if you found out the people who were doing it it'd never stop a full force onslaught of a group dedicated to making people miserible. The fact of the matters are Anonymous simply does not forgive and does not forget, and whether or not you care to admit it, Anonymous is inside us all, it is the darkest part of your soul an will arise when your mind believes the time is right. Teachers have enough crap to put up with these little bastards during work, and I've seen many teachers run out of a classroom crying because the students bullied even them. It is a tragedy when a life is taken prematurely but honestly, the options are already out there that if the Children wanted help it's just a few keystrokes away. If they refuse the help given who are any of you to force it on them? I've reported about a half dozen people for making death threats against me, granted they were pretty much all my Ex girlfriend, her boyfriend, and her parents because I told them all she was cheating because I totally hit that. But a lovely number nonetheless. The options are simple to access, it's simply not the duty of a teacher to deal with something that will go on in other forms, our teachers are already too busy, underpaid and stressed out enough without having to deal with the same stresses the teenagers they teach do, they already went through puberty.
If you want to get something done I suggest having a cop at the local station sit at the computer with a phone and recieve calls specifically for cyber bullying type crimes. The best you can do is report it and hope that someone does something about it, but making the teachers invade our privacy will simply make us lose trust in them even more. Leave it to the Police and FBI it is actually their job, don't put it onto someone else just because they aren't taking it seriously, I suggest making them take it more seriously. Hell, it doesn't take much knowledge to take a complaint, you might not even need real cops to do it.
I certainly do want the more serious cyberbullying where the bully tells the person that they're going to have bodily harm done to them, but honestly kids shouldn't be such pussies that someone telling them they stink they go right to killing themselves I think step one would be take a bath and if somehow that doesn't help, you may want to look into homeschooling if the bullying continues. But simply unless you either change the problem, or learn to not care our immature children are going to kill themselves. If someone is making fun of you because of a cosmetic issue, zits, smell, or clothes simply change it, if your fat, roll with it and make it your own or lose some weight, if they're making fun of you because of how you act either change it, or if you can't don't simply let the popularity monster take away your individuality, just don't care, Good people prefer wierder people over the same generic idiots anyway.
In summary I think putting extra resposibilties on teachers that are already put through hell as it is is just stupid when the options are already out there for people to ask for help, if they refuse to, that is their own mistake. Help the ones who ask for it and as bad as it sounds, cut the losses of the ones who didn't, if you don't ask for help no one will know to give it to you, and reading a Facebook post for something slightly "emo" and jumping the gun will just be annoying to all involved.
See ya next time.

Fushigi - The Real Magic
My first simple analysis of the Magic of Fushigi shows something that to the Trained eye, is nothing more than a Clear (or colored sometimes) Ball made of what I believe is just the typical substance the normal transparent bouncy balls are made of. I notice that the people on the commercials are preforming seemingly amazing acts of Gravity Defiance. And relatively Attractive, yet annoying young females, gushing over how "I don't know what it is, but it's like the coolest thing ever".
I wish to Explain the "magic" of Fushigi I had a few dozen bouncy balls I received from my local CiCi's Pizza's Prize Machines for a mere dollar. I picked up one of the clear ones which also had a few Gold paint strings through the ball's mold. These balls are admittedly about half or so the size of Fushigi, but they only cost me about a dollar or so each. The Price I paid is a resounding One-Thirtieth the price of Fushigi. Which after Shipping and Handling was about 30 dollars, The price now has lowered a bit to $19.99 plus S&H.
I attempted to preform the same "tricks" I saw on TV with this normal ball, and not surprisingly I was completely successful. Most of them are as seen in the Video are simply moving the ball along which requires no special skills, no DVD tutorials, hell not even the pricey ball. The hardest trick was the Gravity Defying illusion, this is achieved by applying a little pressure to the highly frictional and somewhat adherent, smooth surface, with one finger on one side and another on the other, holding the top part of the ball where your fingers will have a hard time slipping.
The Beauty of Fushigi is how much money they rake in off of over hyping the kids making them believe they have to have this Thirty Dollar ball, that I've seen the same type of thing go for about Five at stores like K-Mart, Walmart, and Target, and they even at least to me are Cooler, having snakes, or other things in them. Meaning even if these Stores were selling them and not making any money back which is Financially Illogical, and I believe Walmart and the like would never NOT make a profit Fushigi is getting an extreme Profit with their Advertising Campaign. For Example: Since the Mass Product stores were able to sell these balls for 3-5 dollars, I assume they cost a dollar or maybe less to produce a ball of the same material and size. Fushigi sells them for 25 to 30 bucks. If they cost only one dollar to produce these Fushigi Balls Rake in a 18.99 plus "shipping and handling" of five or six dollars meaning:
19.99 Product Price
+ 5.99 S&H Price
$24.98 Total for consumer
- 1.00 (estimated price of production)
+ 0.00 ????
23.98 PROFIT!
Of course my math may be a tad iffy, but the basics of Economics say that they get quite a large wad of cash regardless, the main difference between this and the five dollar ball sitting on the shelf at the toy store? Only the advertising calling it Magic. I commend the brilliant Businessmen who found a way to even sell one, Imagining how many kids suckered their parents into buying it I'm sure that these Slick Bastards are still getting a few grand incredibly fast. I'm only ashamed I didn't come up with it myself. Bravo, Gentlemen. But Consumers, beware of the Art of Fushigi, it will Kung-fu your wallet into submission.
--Note as of 4/15/11--
Having found what I believed to be a fushigi ball in the bargain bin of my local Good Will I decided to give it a fair try, I was of course wrong on the material it seems instead it is Made of either glass or hard plastic, I only had it for a moment and my material test of those sort of items involves hitting it against my teeth (crude but effective 99% of the time) which I wasn't going to do with a used toy. Of course these materials cost a tad more than the other things I listed, but I would imagine not much more. Most of my facts as listed are true but I wanted to update something I had missed. It's still not incredibly special but I will admit it was fun for the few seconds I bothered to play with it, but I was more interested in the design of the old Singer Sewing machines someone seemingly brought in by the truck load. I was willing to put a large sum down and I have no use for them other than resale.
--Update 2017--
Having gone against my own displeasure of the toy I came across it yet again in a Goodwill Store and purchased it for the outlandish price of 99... cents. It IS indeed made of Clear Resin with a mirror ball inside. It's still hardly something special, I would use it as an interesting display item and the .99 price is about right for it. I only purchased it however for the possible use in an item for my newer venture: Piece Of Scrap Props
